Greening Things Up With
The Farms Choice
The Farms Choice came about because of our ability to see a win-win solution when it came to a steady supply of a natural byproduct of egg ranching. Eggs require hens, and hens create a lot of waste as part of their daily routine. Their steady supply of a potentially useful resource was the beginning of a way for everybody to benefit.
Chicken manure has long been prized as one of the best fertilizers available on the planet because of its high levels of nitrogen, potassium and phosphorus. From commercial growers to home gardeners, it has long been believed that the high nitrogen and balanced nutrients is the reason that chicken manure compost is the best kind of manure to use.
The Farms Choice removes the guess work from using a natural product, and eliminates any odor that is often associated with the use of any manure. It’s clean, virtually scent-free, and simple to use. It also recycles a very valuable byproduct that otherwise might go to waste. Another real recommendation for the use of The Farms Choice is that it is completely safe around pets, children, and other living creatures. There is no mandatory waiting period after its application. You can put it on a lawn or playground, and let the kids go back to playing.
According to the EPA, 249.6 million tons of municipal solid waste or MSW (more commonly known as trash or garbage) were generated in the United States in 2008. Organic materials are the largest component of trash and make up more than two-thirds of the solid waste stream. 36 percent of the materials in a landfill are green waste – much of which could have been recycled.
The EPA’s site (www.epa.gov/osm/conserve/materials/organics) states that reducing, reusing, recycling, and rebuying — the four "Rs"— are key to diverting organic materials from landfills or incinerators and protecting human health and our land, air, and water. Waste reduction and recycling prevents greenhouse gases (GHG) emissions, reduces pollutants, saves energy, conserves resources, and reduces the need for the creation of disposal facilities to handle the massive output created by an increasing population.
The Farms Choice completes the circle of Rs – reducing, reusing, recycling, and rebuying (we also like to add “rethinking”), and customers are happy with another “R” – RESULTS.
